I am using a laptop and my touchpad is not working. This is a loaner laptop and I'm not sure if this worked before. Can anyone help?

The cursor movement from the touchpad does not move at all
Let us make sure that there are no peripherals attached to your computer or other external factors that's causing the problem. So please do the following:Â
1. Turn the computer OFF (if the touchpad is not responding, please press down on the power button for up to 15 seconds to switch off the machine).
Â
2. Unplug all peripherals that are attached to your computer except for the Power Cord. These peripherals would include:
-
Speakers
-
Printers
-
Scanners
-
USB devices
-
Personal Digital Assistants (PDA's)
-
USB flash drive or other external storage devices
-
External Monitor
-
External Keyboard
-
External Mouse
-
If your computer is attached to a docking station, undock it.
Â
3. The next thing you need to do is to make sure that the touchpad and your finger has no dirt, grease, any liquid or food on it (because in order for the touchpad to function properly, it has to make a good contact with your finger).
Â
4. Lastly, turn the computer back ON and test if the touchpad is now working.
Â
If the problem persists, don't hesitate to let me know.
Â
Thanks.

Thanks for the instructions.Â
I did all the steps you mentioned but when I restarted the computer, the touchpad is still not responding. Anything else I should try?
I'm ready to take this lemon back to where I got it if I can't make it work.

One last thing you could try is to make sure that the software installed on your computer, is the latest driver that is available for your touchpad. These drivers are readily available for download at the manufacturer’s website.
After doing so, and you still have the same problem, I would suggest to bring your laptop to the nearest service center or back to the computer manufacturer so they can check if it is a hardware issue.
Â
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you. Please keep me posted.

I went to Dell's website to download the touchpad driver, and you're right, they have it! I went ahead and install it and it magically fixed it! I can now use my touchpad.
Appreciate all your assistance.
