Hi,
I have a desktop Computer which already has a 2GB DDR-2 RAM.
Â
But when I want to play games I face some memory problem as recent games are very luxurious. So to play those games properly I need to install some more RAM for my computer. Or Buy a Graphics card but in recent time DDR-3 RAM is much cheaper than DDR-2 RAM or a good graphics card.
Â
So I want to install a DDR-3 RAM to my PC. Now the question is can I Use DDR-3 RAM with my DDR-2 RAM as my motherboard is Intel DG41? I Hope it supports DDR-3 RAM. Am I right?? So I like to know that can I use them together??
Â
Anyone has any idea please let me know.
Is DDR-2 and DDR-3 RAM can be used together??
Your Motherboard supports only DDR2 800 / 667 MHz DIMMs, DDR2 and DDR3 are not physically compatible, the memory pins of DDR3 cannot fit into that of DDR2 slot. There are alternatives to solving you problem
You can buy dual combo DDR2 and DDR3 motherboard manufactured by MSI, particularly 790GX-8D and the P45-8D.
Your motherboard comes with an internal graphic card which is not very useful, purchase an external graphic card probably used from ebay.com which will cost you less.
-
Update your video driver and also sound card driver.
-
Open task manager and close programs that can consume your memory resources particularly Antivirus, windows indexing programs.
-
Increase your virtual memory go to the Control Panel > System > Advanced > Performance Settings > Advanced > Virtual Memory then set to about 3GB, virtual memory is usually have off from your hard disk.
-
Adjust the visual effects set by windows to best performance.
-
Change your Game display settings one at a time and see the effect of each change.
Is DDR-2 and DDR-3 RAM can be used together??
Before you look at trying to fit DDR3 into a DDR3Â DIMM slot, you should note the following differences that makes them incompatible:
-
Difference in voltage, DDR3 consumes less power than DDR2. Therefore placing a DDR3Â RAM into DDR2 slot may ruin it.
-
DDR3 has a higher bandwidth, this means the data transfer rate between the memory and processor therefore DDR2 based motherboards have not been optimized to transfer data at such higher rates.
-
The notches in DDR3 are In Different position than those of DDR2,someone tried sanding the notch position of DDR3 RAM but all he did was spoil it, caution don’t try that!
It is impossible to fit a DDR3Â RAM into a DDR2 slot consider buying a graphic card .
Is DDR-2 and DDR-3 RAM can be used together??
No it's not possible, both have different hardware.
