Hi Shawn,

We also same experience with the hard drive crashed during installation. No matter how you reboot / restart your system then the problem still there. It sad to say that your hard disk never work or failed to operate during the process of defragmenting. For me it is not advisable to do defragmenting once or hard disk is old, let say 3-5 years of usage. You can reformat your hard disk and maybe it's gonna work again. You don't have a choice but to install another Operating Systems and install again the drivers of your sound card and motherboard just before when you first install Operating System on your computer. Hard drive crash are also common on defragmenting, the best way next time is to reformat your PC just to be save, if you have the doubt of your OS you just reformat it right away rather than defragment.

Thanks.

Hi,

First of all attach your hard drive to another computer. If hard disk open simply then put your important data from your hard disk to another media. If hard disk not opens normally then use data recovery software and receive your important data.

Then, Attach your hard drive to your computer and try to install fresh copy of your operating system. In process of installation you would format hard disk. When windows run successfully then you want to know that hard disk is correct.

Second, it is possible that any connection of hard disk may lose or defected. So check that.

Hello Shawn Braxton,

So since your computer shut down when you were trying to fragment it you have not been able to restart it again, and you have also not been able to access the desktop? If are able to access the desktop then I would have advised that you try running the system restore utility and see if it will remove that error.

But in the event that you are not able to access the desktop, then the only option you are left with is re-installing the operating system, or you can also obtain a disk repair CD and try to run it and see if it can be able to fix that problem that has just crushed your system.

Hope this helps.
