I would like to standardize the desktop environments of the computers in one department. This would include wallpapers, My Documents, Start menu, etc. What are the steps that should be done? Is it possible to use non MSI software with GPO?Â
Desktop environments in one department
When standardizing the desktop environments of computers in one department, you can be able to archive that by using the "user profile". What you will need to do first of all is to modify any user's profile first, and after that you can then copy that location to any particular location and then you can share it. Once you have done that, you can then define the "profile path" from "ad user and computers".
You will notice that the profiles play a key role when standardizing the desktop environments. In case a user is assigned with Mandatory profiles then whatever changes they make to desktop settings will not be stored on server and they will be lost for every refresh. But in case it happens that the user is assigned with Roaming profiles permissions then whatever changes they make to desktop or files or folders will be stored on Server and user desktop.
