Difference between Net BIOS and Net BEUI

qa-featured

NetBIOS is better known as Network Basic Input/Output System has an extended version which is the Net BEUI or NetBIOS Extended User Interface. NetBIOS is a program that enables different computers to communicate within a Local Area Network (LAN). It was adopted by Microsoft but was originally created by IBM for its early PC Network.

NetBIOS provides three distinct services which includes ( 1 ) Name service for name registration and resolution; ( 2 ) session service for connection-oriented communication; and ( 3 ) data gram distribution service for connection less communication.

On the other hand, there is what we call as WIN. This allow a NetBIOS name to be converted to an IP address but will not do name lookups based on IP addresses.

In definition, NetBIOS stands for Network Basic Input/Output System and is the one that offers services that are connected to the session layer of the OSI model. With this, it gives different software on different computers the ability to communicate in a Local Area Network.

The NetBEUI stands for NetBIOS Extended User Interface. It is a NetBIOS emulator used in the token ring network topology and this permits NetBIOS-aware applications from PC-Network period to function on this new network design.

WINS, on the other hand, stands for Windows Internet Name Service and was specially designed to maintain or support NetBIOS over TCP/IP or NetBT. It determines names in the NetBIOS namespace.
