Difference between shared hosting, virtual private server and dedicated servers

 What is the main difference between shared hosting, virtual private server and dedicated servers, which one should be prefer ?
Actually I want to run my own server but I don't have any such idea related to this.If someone can give a better suggestion ?

Difference between shared hosting, virtual private server and dedicated servers

Shared hosting is recommended if you have a small and low traffic website. . it is the most common type of hosting and also the cheapest one.

In shared webhosting, you are hosted on a server with different websites. Multiple customers on a server are sharing the resources like same ip and server host name.

A virtual private server is a semi dedicated webhosting and offers its users like root SSH access, flexibility to install custom software and applications

It is also affordable as compared to dedicated server and you can get virtual environment with dedicated resources of server for your usage.

A dedicated server is a dedicated machine which gives all the resources to a single user like root access, operating system, software, etc.  In dedicated server all the resources are available to only 1 user and there is no sharing. Perfect for high traffic websites.
