My Question is that what is the major difference between Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008.

And also I want to know about Difference between Server 2008 and Server 2008 R2.

The main difference between 2003 and 2008 is Visualization, management. In Windows Server 2008, Microsoft is introducing new features and technologies, some of which were not available in Windows Server 2003 with Service Pack 1 (SP 1), that will help to reduce the power consumption of server and client operating systems, minimize environmental byproducts and increase server efficiency. 2) Windows Server 2008 has been designed with energy efficiency and convenient access to number of new power saving features.

3) Windows Server 2008 has more in-built components and updated third party drivers when compared to Windows Server 2003.

4) Windows Server 2008 also reduces the hardware costs by running several virtual servers on one physical machine. It also introduced hyper virtualization when compared to Windows Server 2003.

5) The server efficiency and energy saving efficiency are greater in Windows Server 2008 when compared to windows 2003.

Differences between Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2:

1) Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2 are of the same operating system but their service packs are differed.

2) Windows Server 2008 is based on the 6.0 kernel where as Windows Server 2008 r2 is based on 6.1 the same as windows 7.

3) Even the GUI levels are differed where Windows Server 2008 R2 uses the same new GUI used my windows 7.

4) Windows Server 2008 R2 exists for 64bit platform where as Windows Server 2008 has x86 version.
