Difference of ISO imaging to other disk imaging software

ISO Image is an international format standard for using disc image. ISO is used to make images of CD/DVD. Another file format used for disc imaging is IMG. IMG works by creating bitmaps of sectors in disk. As the size of sector is 512 bytes, the IMG file has a size always a multiple of 512. There is no difference in ISO/IMG structures if both are uncompressed. You can rename the file having .img extension with .iso and can open it in a software which only allow ISO files.
