I have read a lot of good reviews about the AVG and I am really wondering about it. I want to try this AVG if its really good and really helpful. Now, I still have the Norton Antivirus 2008 at my PC and it runs good. But any chance, I would like to download and install the AVG version 8 from the internet which is free. Is there a possibility that I can download AVG 8 and I still have the Norton Antivirus 2008 on my PC? Will this AVG work tell me to uninstall this Norton?

Honestly, I just want the trial, I don't want to remove Norton unless I am sure AVG will install Ok and will work good than Norton.

  • Having two virus guards in a machine is useless. It will only eat your memory and other resources. Norton is a heavy weight virus guard and AVG is now becoming a heavy weight too. Having a heavy weight one and a light weight one is can be considerable. But two heavy weight software programs will only cause into trouble.

Why do you want to use both of them? If you have a perfect Norton which is runs good, why don't you use it for protect your machine. AVG is good, only if you cannot spend money to buy a licensed one. You know that paid one is better than a free one. If you really want to use them together, then I can say the answer is yes. They can work together. But this will decreases your resources and limit your tasks of doing other things. If you installed both of them, try using them one at a time. Don't run them simultaneously. I mean both of them performing real-time antivirus protection in the background. Don't use that feature in both together and surely will lead into conflicts. You can use one software for real-time and one software for scanning purpose. Scanning means the full system scanning you do for a once a month.

General idea among experts is not having two or more auto protection systems active on one machine. Certainly it is not a recommended way as its cause conflict each among them and leads into freeze or non responsive and need to a reboot. You have to decide which software going to do active protection and which software going to demand scan. So I propose the lightweight one to active protection and heavyweight one to on demand scan. On your case AVG for active protection and Norton to demand scan. Because I experienced that Norton slows the machines and requires more CPU usage, but AVG does not compared to it. And also AVG scans the whole disks quickly than Norton.

  • Both of these software have both pros and cons. Sometimes when a one software becomes successful and other one becomes failure, in identifying a virus. This successful depends on the updates. So keep your both virus guards up to date.
  • I hope you had a decision now. If you want to experience the AVG virus guard, then install it. And have the difference between them. From my experience I want to say that Norton makes your machine slower but makes fully protection.

Actually, AVG is a perfect virus guard as well as Norton. But it is not heavier than Norton. If you want to install AVG, first you must totally disable the Norton security system. Otherwise you couldn’t be able to complete the installation. Don’t install AVG by using online. Download full installation package and then install.
