Do we require any additional tool/ software to develop application that can be used in Adobe AIR? Please explain the difference between Adobe AIR and Flex? How is Adobe AIR related to Widget?

Do we require additional tool to develop application in Adobe AIR?

Adobe Integrated Runtime or Adobe AIR is a cross-platform environment developed by Adobe Systems for building Rich Internet Application using Adobe Flash, Flex, HTML and Ajax. It can be installed on Windows, Linux or MAC OS. It supports Flash Application by running within a contained Flash Player instance.

Adobe Flex on the other hand is a software development kit used to develop and deploy cross-platform rich internet application based on Adobe Flash platform. It can be written using Adobe Flash Builder or a flex compiler from Adobe.

You need to install Adobe Flex before you can develop rich internet application in Adobe Air.
