Yes it's doubled, but only for the thumbnails in the news feed though. You can still upload pictures with different sizes and encounter no problems. They did this because this type of design is already used in their mobile applications. Note that the enlarging of the images' size is not the only thing that changed however, as thumbnails of the other pictures of the album are also conveniently placed on the sides. Facebook did this so that the profile pictures of your friends are bigger than normal, which makes them more eye-catching. Google+, another social network is already employing this kind of user interface design from their release, so maybe Facebook got some of their inspiration from there.
Instagram, one of the premiere photo apps in the market today, was just recently bought by Facebook. Maybe they are getting ready to integrate it into their social network giant. Let’s just wait and see.

If Facebook changes the size of the pictures that can be uploaded, the parts that will surely be affected are the cover photo and possibly the profile photo as well. The cover photo is the big picture you see on top of the profile when you view someone else’s account that insets the profile picture on the left side. This is the portion in the profile that has been added when the timeline feature was applied.
When uploading an image for the cover photo, the site expects a specific size and file size. The photo I used in my cover photo originally has a file size of 2.46 MB and measures 2400 x 1565 pixels which when I resized, it now only measures 960 x 626 pixels with a file size of 115 KB. This is the same when changing the profile photo. The image needs to be resized according to the site’s requirements. But the pictures you upload in your album still don’t require any resizing and you can still upload any size you want.
First, take my heartfelt gratitude as a remuneration, for your impressive comments. Everyone’s comments were good but Sharath, your comment was one of the best for presenting a well organized description about my required question. Actually, I didn’t understand why the image needed to be resized according to the site’s requirements but your example explanation helped me out of this problem. Your comments are complete solutions to my problem about the photo size with Facebook. For that, Sharath, take my love with deep warmth for dispelling my doubt as well as Techyv.com for distributing this post.
