Hi there folks,
I have an Epson Perfection 3490 Photo scanner. I am running Windows 7.
This scanner used to work beautifully until I removed some other software that I no longer wanted. Sadly I cannot remember what it was. Anyway since then the scanner refuses to work. I have tried reloading the software from the set-up disc and also I have visited the Epson site to get the latest drivers and set-up software, all to no avail. All the other bundled items will load from the set-up disc but not the scan facility.
Whatever I try I always get the following error:
——————————————————————————————————————————————
Could not copy files. Check the setup disc, then run setup again.
C:DOCUME~1COMPAQ~1LOCALS~1Temp\setup.ini
——————————————————————————————————————————————
I have checked the entire cabling etc and even tried cleaning the registry. Have I perhaps deleted some windows dlls in error?
I checked the device manager and reloaded the drivers from the set-up disc and it all looked good. However, I could not see the scanner icon on my desktop. I restarted, but still could not see it. So I tried loading just the scanner from the set-up program and then I got exactly the same message as before and also the device has disappeared from device manager.
Any ideas please?
Thank you.

Epson Perfection 3490 Photo scanner issue!
Hi Jason,
You may try the following steps to have your driver installed again.
-
Please Open Computer then select / enable “Show hidden files and folders” in Organize > Folder and Search Options > View > Advanced Settings.
-
Open or Browse this path/location: C:UsersusernamefolderAppdataLocalTemp and remove all the contents of the Temp folder.
-
After all files had been removed, close all opened window and permanently delete files in your Recycle Bin.
-
Try to re install your EPSON Scan and other application related to your scanner from your driver disK.
-
Go back to your Temp folder: C:UsersusernamefolderAppdataLocalTemp, then rename the Setup.exe file to Setup.old
-
Again Close or exit the window.
-
Run the installation software again (EPSON Scan disK).
-
After having the EPSON Scan have installed successfully please go back to the folder Local SettingsTemp then rename Setup.old to Setup.exe.
This error comes because there is not enough free temp space in the local users account folder.
Hope this helps you resolve your issue.
Epson Perfection 3490 Photo scanner issue!
It looks like your setup CD is already physically damage. You may find another installer or you may contact you Epson service provider to help you troubleshoot or request for a replacement disk.
