Hello,
I am upgrading from Win98SE to WinME. When I get to the hardware settings and plug and play detection , the system hangs.
I get error: 0E:0028:C002006 and 0E: 0028: C0027562, on a blue screen, for example. I have to reboot by unplugging the machine.
I have crappy HP Pavilion 6535. I installed an Ethernet card and a 2.0 USB card, 2 weeks before the upgrade. The new hardware installs never worked on Win98SE. Could this be why I'm getting the error codes? When installing WinME? Due to incompatibility?

Hi Able31,
After the failed hardware installations did you remove them? If not this could be causing a conflict when you are now trying to do you upgrade from Win98SE to WinME.
I would suggest that you try removing all hardware, (e. g. The Ethernet card and 2.0 USBÂ card) not necessary to the upgrade and then attempt the upgrade to WinME. If this resolves the issue then you can install them with ME. If it does not resolve the issue then at least you know that the error message is not being caused by the failed installation of them on 98SE.Â
You might also want to disable/uninstall any Antivirus software before attempting the upgrade as during upgrade remnants of these have been known to cause problems.Â
Finally, you might find these pages helpful on Fatal Exceptions Errors for 98 and ME and possible causes:Â

Thanks and hope this helps.

Solution 1:
-
Please Setup your windows again after checking your ram. Plug out your ram from motherboard & clean the motherboard's RAM slot & RAM pin with cotton cloth. After plugin the RAM into motherboard you can start your setup again.
Solution 2:
-
I think the Ethernet card is not compatible with your HP Pavilion 6535 pc. So please remove it & try to start your setup again.
Solution 3:
-
Start Windows ME in Safe mode: Restart your computer, press and hold down the CTRL key after your computer completes the Power On Self Test (POST), and then choose Safe Mode from the Startup menu.
-
Click Start, point to Search, and then click Files or Folders.
-
In the Search for files or folders named box, type "cdraspi. vxd", and then click Search Now.
-
In the list of found files, right click the Cdraspi. vxd file, and then click Rename.
-
Type a new name for the Cdraspi. vxd file (such as Cdraspi. xxx), and then press ENTER.
-
Restart your computer normally.
And after all if your problem is not solve, then please check Your computer's RAM & RAM slot by a hardware expert. I think the root of the problem is there.
Thank you,
