I have a Windows 7 PC, and I got this error when I was trying to activate Windows 8, “0x8007232B”, and it also has keywords like Key Management Services. I want to know why this occurs and how can I fix this error?

The error code, “0x8007232B”, occurs when the activation wizard is unable to connect to a Key Management Service host computer.

So what is Key Management Service (KMS)? KMS activates computers on a Local Network rather than having individual computers connect to Microsoft every time.

This error code seen is when you are trying to activate Windows on a different operating system. While Windows products are installed, it uses a generic product key to install volume-based license software. If you do have a KMS host computer configuration but you still get this error it means your computer is not noticing the correct DNS entries. You need to do KMS computer setup, otherwise, use MAK product key method, and that way activates your volume license installation.

Multiple Access Key (MAK) method involves doing the following: run Command Prompt in administrator mode, and enter your password when prompted. Enter the following and press the Enter button, “slmgr -ipk xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx” where the X denotes your MAK product key.

There is a complete repair tool for this error code which you can download from an authentic website, so this will take care of any connection problems.

You may receive error code “0x8007232b” when you try to activate a new installation of Microsoft Windows when the KMS activation server is down or from a volume license media. Users may not be prompted to enter a valid product key during the initial installation but this behavior will trigger the error when you try to activate the operating system using the standard Windows Activation wizard.

This error code may be accompanied by one of the following messages:

“DNS Name does not exist.”
“Windows could not be activated. Key management services (KMS) host could not be located in domain name system (DNS), please have your system administrator verify that a KMS is published correctly in DNS.”
“The file name, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.”

This error is more common on Windows 7 and Windows 8 though this is not a given fact. To fix the problem, press the Windows key then in the search box type without quotes “cmd”. Right-click “cmd.exe” in the search results then select “Run as administrator” to launch an elevated command prompt. If you are prompted with User Account Control, just click “Yes” to continue.

In the command prompt window, enter the following command then hit Enter:

slmgr -ipk xxxxx – xxxxx – xxxxx – xxxxx – xxxxx

Replace “xxxxx – xxxxx – xxxxx – xxxxx – xxxxx” with your product key and with the dashes included. The product key is a set of 25 alphanumeric characters. Before hitting Enter, verify that your product key is still valid and don’t forget the dashes in between. If this is successful, you should see a “Windows Host Script” popup after several seconds.
