Error Code 1601: Windows installer is not accessible

ERROR_INSTALL_SERVICE_FAILURE 1601 The Windows Installer service could not be accessed. Contact your support personnel to verify that the Windows Installer service is properly registered.

I am installing Turbo Tax and get Error Code1601: Windows installer is not accessible. Installation can't continue because the Windows Installer could not be accessed.

I have tried the solutions available in support.microsoft.com but nothing works.

Error Code 1601: Windows installer is not accessible

 

HI, This error usually occurs if you haven’t restarted your computer after installing or updating files, or if the Windows Installer is disabled or damaged.

Following are the solutions to get rid of this error.

1: Restart your computer 

2: Change the Windows Installer properties:

      From the Control Panel ->Administrative Tools·-> Services ->Windows Installer service do startup type to manual and    service status to stopped.

3: Re-register the windows installer

 In the run type msiexec /regserver and click ok button.

4: Download the Windows Installer, and then try installing/updating again.
