Since your computer was unable to check new updates for Windows, you may want to check if you have a good internet connection. Open your web browser and then try browsing some websites and see if your internet connection is stable enough. If the connection seems pretty much stable, try again the Windows Update. If it still does not work, try checking your computer for any possible errors. Use a disk utility tool to check the system. For a much thorough diagnostics on the system, use a disk utility tool like PC Tools Performance Toolkit or Norton Utilities.
You can also try checking your system using System File Checker. Click Start, Run then type sfc /verifyonly then hit Enter. This command will check the integrity of all protected system files. If the scan reported an error, open WINDOWSlogscbscbs.logsfcdetails.txt to see the error details. After checking the details, try attempting a repair by clicking Start, Run then type sfc /scanfile=<path and file name>. For example, sfc /scanfile=C:WINDOWSsystem32iasias.mdb.
