Hello,
I am trying to install Windows 7 using VMware Workstation but during the installation it was cancelled and displayed the following error message saying “Windows cannot install required files”. What is actually happened? I can’t understand this that’s why I need your help to resolve this issue immediately.
Thanks in advance.
Windows cannot install required files. The file may be corrupt or missing. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation.
Error during Installing Windows on VMWare
Hi Sue,
The error is because some registry files are missing.
There are multiple solutions to resolve this error as:
Solution 1: Modify the registry key
1) Run the installation using 'Run As Administrator'
2) Check that no processes like webcam.exe, fixcamera.exe are running on the system
3) Run the installation package from the command line. Type the command '/z action=install'
4) After the installation is completed, restart the system
5) Go to the registry key: 'HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionInternet SettingsZones'
6) Delete the key present in the above registry key path
Solution 2: Modification through files in Installer
1) Go to 'C:WindowsInstaller'
2) Add the column 'Authors', click 'Sort By'
3) Select .msi file with name 'VMware' author
4) Uninstall by following the wizard
5) To install the new version, run 'cmd.exe' as administrator
6) Type the following commands:
a) cd install-file-directory
b) install-file.exe/e tempfolder
