I am receiving the error message "Windows cannot access <<Computer Name>>" while trying to connect Windows Vista to a network containing Windows XP and Windows 7 computer. Though I am able to see the Windows Vista box, I cannot access the file stating that I don’t have the permission to access the computer. Please help me resolve the issue.
Error message “Windows cannot access <>”
Hi Shiela,
First thing you need to check is that all Hard drives of your computers on the network should be using NTFS settings.
The next thing you need to make sure is that the File and Printer sharing and Client for Microsoft Networks are both enabled. You can check if its enabled by going to Start > Connect to > Show all connections > Right Click on your network Connection > Properties.
Third thing to check is to disable your Simple or Wizard File- Sharing interface. You can do this by going to opening My Computer > Tools > Folder Options > View > Uncheck Use Sharing Wizard or Use Simple File Sharing > OK.
Last thing to check is to make sure the computers are on the same workgroup.
