Hello,

When I run Tableau Desktop on Microsoft Windows Server 2008 or 2012 with the 64-bit version of Office 2013 installed, an error occurs when I try to connect to a Microsoft Excel data source. If I show the details, I see the following message:

The drivers necessary to connect to this database are not properly installed…
Database error 0x80040154: Class not registered. Have any idea to resolve?

The failure to run the application is because you do not have Microsoft access 2007. All you need to do is to get this software and install it. It will fix your error. The link below will help you get the software and fix your error. With this link it will also give you some notes on how to use the additional software.

I guess the post above is right. It seems you need to have Microsoft Office Access because Tableau Desktop requires the Microsoft Access Database Engine 2007 when connecting to Microsoft Office Excel 2007, 2010, and 2013 as well as when accessing Microsoft Office Access 2007, 2010, and 2013. But installing Microsoft Office Access is not enough or is really the solution to fix the problem.

Even if you have it, Tableau Desktop will still not work and I know you already have the Microsoft Office 2013 package on your computer which means Microsoft Office Access is already installed. The reason why you have this error when using Tableau Desktop on accessing a Microsoft Office Excel data source is because you are using 64-bit.

You won’t have this problem on Tableau Desktop if you only have 32-bit Microsoft Office 2013. Since you have the 64-bit edition of Microsoft Office 2013, you need to install the database driver or the Microsoft Access Database Engine 2007. To download, visit 2007 Office System Driver Data Connectivity Components. Remember, you only need to install this driver if you have the 64-bit edition of Microsoft Office 2013 or Microsoft Office 2010.

You don’t need to install it if you have the 32-bit edition. It is no longer required.
