I have Windows XP SP3 32-bit running on my machine. And I am using Outlook 2010 on it. I never had a problem with opening attachments on Outlook 2010. But just today, when I got an email message with attached Excel files, then try to save the file, I am receiving error that says, “Cannot save the attachments.
Cannot create file; filename.xls. Right-click the folder you want to create the file in, and then click Properties on the shortcut menu to check your permissions for the folder. I tried saving on different folders but still causing the same error message. What can I do to fix it?
Error in opening attachment in Outlook 2010
Hi Kailey Wilkinson,
The attachment you are going to open might be infected or damage by a virus. Outlook Express
might detect it and categorized that as unsafe data and for your computer to be free from viruses.
Outlook express don't permit the attachment to e open or to have an access to it.
If you are really sure that the file is free from and safe to save you have to change the setting of your
computer regarding downloading and saving file.
How?
potential virus.

And last hit Ok in your Options in the dialog box.
Hope this may help you,

Error in opening attachment in Outlook 2010
Hi,
Actually this error only occurs when you use Ms Outlook 2010 on Windrows XP.
There two possible solution for this problem.
Possible Solution 1:
Try to clear the temp folder used by Ms Outlook 2010 to open attachments. It is not windows temp folder but Ms Outlook 2010 temp folder. This error occurs when you have opened approximately 100 files.
Possible Solution 2:
Make a new profile, may resolve this issue. But first of all please make back of your current email data.
