Hi guys

I recently came to know about boot camp to run two OS on a single machine i.e making it a virtual PC. Now I wanted the parallels desktop but it only supports windows XP so I installed windows xp on my system by launching parallels.

My next step was to select boot camp as a virtual hard drive and then I completed the remaining set up. Now when I started the installation, I was met with a trouble shooting error. The screenshot of the error is attached below:

Parallel desktops cannot find necessary drivers to configure your boot camp partition. Please refer to help> Parallel desktop help> using boot camp Windows XP installation for troubleshooting

The message states:

Microsoft Windows XP – Parallel desktop

Parallel desktops cannot find necessary drivers to configure your boot camp partition.

Please refer to help > Parallel desktop help > using boot camp Windows XP installation for troubleshooting

Can anyone please tell me how can I fix this issue?

Any suggestions are most welcome.

Hi Jett,

These steps might help you:

  • Go to Boot Camp and directly boot xp.
  • Download or copy (from other OS install disc for xp)  sp2.cab and go to local disk C:/ > Windows > then open drivers > and paste sp2.cap copied/downloaded file in the folder i386.
  • The reboot into Mac OS X back.
  • Then Parallels Desktop must be set up to use Boot Camp. That's it.

Hope it helps.
