Error when playing MP4 on QuickTime

Hi,

I am new to QuickTime but I have installed version 7.7.4 on Windows 7. However, when I try to play a .MP4 file the program brings up an error. I took a screenshot of the error and presented it to you for a solution. See image below.

Error message:

Couldn’t open the file

“SonsofLiberty.mp4” because an unknown error occurred. The number of the error is: 8971.

Error when playing MP4 on QuickTime

QuickTime has some problems with .mp4 files but not with all files. It`s a bug in this program and you can resolve it just by converting the video to another format. There are a lot of free programs that convert very easy .mp4 in .AVI or other video formats. This is the quickest way to resolve your problem.

Error when playing MP4 on QuickTime

Hi Paul Dawson,

It seems QuickTime player has an issue with mp4 files (particularly the longer or bigger mp4 files). Perhaps you need to install and update the codec pack such as K-lite. You can also find an alternative player like VLC Player.
