If you are getting the error code “0x800C0133” this is because the folders.dbx file is missing, corrupted or is set to read-only.

To fix the problem, first try to restart your computer, if the same error is still showing try following the steps below.

  • Click on Tools menu located on the upper part of your Outlook Express
  • Click on Options
  • Click Maintenance Tab
  • Click Store Folder. After doing so, it will show the location of your Outlook Express files
  • Close your Outlook Express and go to the location that you saw on the step above
  • Rename “inbox.dbx” to “oldinbox.dbx” or you may also name it to any name you would like to use
  • Open Outlook express again and this will create a new inbox.dbx file

If your old emails are not damaged or corrupted, you will still be able to recover them.

  • On your Outlook Express window, right-click on the icon for Local Folders in the list
  • Click on New Folder and then name it to “Old Inbox”
  • Search for oldinbox.dbx or the name you have used and the old emails should be inside that folder.

That error is definitely a problem with your account’s POP settings. Before you can use Microsoft Outlook Express to send and receive email messages with charter.net, you need to have the correct configurations for IMAP and or POP settings. Without the correct settings, you won’t be able to use an email client. For charter.net, here are the correct POP and IMAP settings:

For IMAP:

  • Incoming mail server (IMAP) – imap.charter.net, port 143
  • Outgoing mail server (SMTP) – smtp.charter.net, port 587
  • SSL – must be turned on or enabled for both IMAP and SMTP
  • Requires Authentication – yes or checked (use same settings as my incoming mail server)

For POP:

  • Incoming mail server (POP) – pop.charter.net
