Hi everyone,

I plan to utilize my American made laptop in Paris and access the net in that country. My question is doing Europe and the US has the same Wi-Fi standards? What other information do I need?

Thanks.

Hello.

I have a laptop and it came from my sister who is living in Ireland. My laptop can detect any wireless device around 20 meters away from my unit whether it's password protected or not.

Most of the Wi-Fi device features are the same; as long as there is a free Wi-Fi spot in your range you should be able to have entered the internet without problem.

Hope this helps you.

Hi Halleleilani2,

The Wi-Fi Standards in US and Europe are different.

The Wi-Fi standard for US is 802.11g which is faster than 802.11b and is generally very good for file transfer as well as internet access browsing. 802.11g reaches up to speed limit of 54 mbps whereas the Wi-Fi standard for Europe is the IEEE 802.11b. It is slower for file transferring but provides a standard reasonable speed for internet access at around 11 mbps.

Since most of the laptops are built with both the standards, you should have no problem accessing the internet in Paris. All that might be affected is your file sharing will be slower.

Hope this helps

Hi,

Wi-Fi uses IEEE 802.11(a/b/g) standards which work internationally. I have used my US laptop in Europe and never had a problem with Wi-Fi connections so you don’t have to worry about your Wi-Fi connection in Paris.

Please check your laptop electrical adapter to make sure it supports 100-240V input.

Hope this answers your question.
