Hey, everyone,
Microsoft gave me interesting surprise just now.
Microsoft Excel 2008 displayed this unusual error message when I opened up a standard Office 2003 (Windows) / Office 2004(Mac) XLS spreadsheet. OpenOffice 3.0 Calc not only opened the same file without complaining but it seemed to start the application and load the file much faster than Excel 2008. Would any of you, guys, know why this is happening?
Here is a screenshot of the error message. Hope it helps:
File error: data may been lost.
Help, anyone?
Thanks!
Excel error in opening Office 2003 (Windows) / Office 2004(Mac) XLS spreadsheet
Hello friend,
  Â
Sometimes when you opened an application into other software which written in another software, it is likely that you'll get an error, It is not possible for all applications to support all soft wares/OS,Â
As per reviewing your problem, i will suggest you that please check your file again and note that which software was used to create it. It is understandable thing that the file was formerly written in SunMicrosystem's OpenOffice and it is also opening properly.
Try to convert your file for Microsoft OR Mac compatible, you will succeed.
Thanks

Hi Simmons,
Are you getting this error on any Excel file or only one file?
If your answer is only one file, then try to save that file by a different file name. Close the file and reopen it.
Has the problem gone?
Another solution: Sometime we use custom font in Microsoft Excel. But the Excel doesn’t support the font.
Are you using custom font which hasn’t come with windows?
If so, then change the font of your file. It may fix your error.
