The error occurs when you use Windows website or updates to install the update.

I

  1. Log in to your system as Administrator
  2. In the Administrative Tools, go to control panel
  3. Select System and Maintenance
  4. Double click on the Services, type the password if the system asks for it
  5. Go to Office Service Engine services and right-click on it and select properties
  6. Choose Automatic option available and select Apply
  7. Then, click on the Start button

II

If the above steps do not work then follow these steps –

  1. Click on the Start menu and in the search box type cmd
  2. In the cmd window, right click on the Properties and choose, Run as Administrator
  3. Enter the line sfs/scannow in the command prompt window

You may receive error code “0x80070643” when you try to install Microsoft Security Essentials, Windows Live Essentials, or a specific Windows Live application such as Windows Live Messenger. The problem happens because the previous installation or the old installation puts the computer in a state where there is a pending restart. To fix the problem, try restarting the computer then reinstall Microsoft Security Essentials.

When reinstalling, don’t uninstall the existing version. Just run the installer of Microsoft Security Essentials to install over the existing installation. On the other hand, if you receive this error when installing Microsoft Security Essentials, download and run Microsoft Security Essentials Removal Tool to remove any leftover files from your computer.

Once uninstalled, restart your computer and install Microsoft Security Essentials again.
