Hey, there!
I really want to install Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 but whenever I try to run the installation, I keep getting this error:
“Error 1606: Could not access network location%ALLUSERSPROFILE%Start MenuProgramsAdministrative Tools.”
It comes in a pop up window when I run the installation package in my PC. By the way, I am using Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3. I used to have Norton Antivirus 2009 but I already uninstalled it manually.
I have gone looking online for the answers and my search led me to these two sites: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315352 and http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/sunse…_nam&seg=ag. Both suggested that I check all the registry for errors but they seem okay to me.
Can anyone help me find a solution?
Thank you!
Failed installation of Kaspersky Internet Security 2010
To resolve the issue about the error message “Error 1606: Could not access network location%ALLUSERSPROFILE%Start MenuProgramsAdministrative Tools” you will need to uninstall Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 first from the Add/Remove Program. Then you will need to change some path to the registry. After each section, start the installation of the Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 to see if the error message will reappear. If not, then it means that the issue has been resolved. If the issue persists though, do the same thing with the next section. Here are the steps on how to change the Common Programs path for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
1. Go to Start then click on Run
2. Type in regedit then hit Enter
3. Once you are on the Registry Editor, navigate to the following:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerUser Shell Folders
%ALLUSERSPROFILE%Start MenuPrograms
7. Hit OK
8. Once you see the value Common Administrative Tools on the right pane, repeat all steps from 4 to 7. The data will look like this:
%ALLUSERSPROFILE%Start MenuProgramsAdministrative Tools
9. Now, on Registry Editor, in Edit menu, choose Find
10. Once in Find dialog box, in Find What box, type the following:
55EB66EFB74A75B4D9E26680831FE059
11. In the section “Look at”, make sure that Keys, Values, and Data are all checked
12. Then click Find Next
13. After that, click on 55EB66EFB74A75B4D9E26680831FE059 key
14. This time, press Delete, then Yes to confirm
15. Press F3 key and search for the next instance of key
16. After that, repeat 13 and 14 for each key until you see the message stating that the Registry Editor is already finish searching
17. Close Registry Editor
18. Restart the PC
19. Reinstall Kaspersky Internet Security 2010
4. On the right pane, please double-click on Common Programs
5. Then in the Edit String dialog box, in the Value Data box, delete all texts before Start MenuPrograms
6. This time, type%ALLUSERSPROFILE%:
Failed installation of Kaspersky Internet Security 2010
Hi,
If you want to use a new Internet security you have to uninstall the previous version of the Internet security.
Once you do that, follow the right instructions to install the new version.
If you use "One pc" package you will be able to install the Internet security in one computer only.
You can't copy that for another computer ( it's only for one hard disk drive).
So be sure about that.
Thanks.
