I’m getting a fatal error with Maya 2012.

It says

“Fatal Error. Attempting to save in C: Users/DIR/AppData/Local/Temp/XXXXX.ma”

When I tried to uninstall – reinstall, I get this error:

Exception code: C0000005: ACCESS_VIOLATION – illegal read at address 0x00000134
Fault address:  6BDEE08F in C:Windowssystem32aticfx64.dll

My system specs: Asus G73, Windows 7 64bit.

I hope someone can help.

I think the problem here is either the application got corrupted files or there is an error in the file system of the hard drive.

The problem is maybe within the program itself or outside the program.

If you already tried reinstalling Maya 2012 and you still get that error, try uninstalling it completely. If uninstalling it seems not possible when you are in the normal mode of Windows, try restarting your computer and then boot to Safe Mode. After booting to Safe Mode, uninstall Maya 2012 using the Add or Remove Programs and then restart the computer.

Boot normally. Check your computer for any possible errors. Use a disk utility application to check the system. For a much thorough diagnostics on the system, use a disk utility application like Norton System Works or Norton Utilities.

Install the application again afterwards.

The problem seems to be not because your MAYA installation is faulty but because MAYA as being an extensively graphical processing software needs graphics card access and that's done through drivers which I think are not suitable for MAYA 2012.

Simple course of action in this situation would be to clean your system of old drivers of the graphics card and install the latest version for your graphics card.

But it might still not work if the graphics card is not up to standards for MAYA 2012, which will need a new card.
