I was adding a borrowed an all-in-one HP printer to our PC at home when I got this error message, see below.  I almost completed installation when this happened. I tried to search the web since I wasn’t that techie and didn’t find any guide.  So I turned to this forum because someone might be able to guide me thru on how to install the printer. Please help.

Hi,
The printer software version that you're using may be for a different operating system, hence it failed to finish installation and gave you that fatal error message. Try and check if the installation media lists your operating system as one of the supported operating systems.

If you downloaded the installation software from the printer manufacturer's website, try and download the file again. The installation file that you have may be incomplete and missing some important files needed to complete the installation. After downloading try installing the software again.

Hi Nelly,
You are receiving that error because the CD you are using to install the printer drivers from is corrupt or does not have the correct drivers for that particular printer. May be the CD you are using has got some scratches that might have been caused by mishandling the CD, for instance dropping it on the ground or touching its lens hence the DVD drive cannot successfully read the data from the CD.
Ensure that you are installing the right drivers for that printer because if you try to install say hp drivers on a dell printer then it will not work.

Check it from the hp site…
And try uninstall the product and stall it again.
If the problem occurs you have a problem on your installer..

If that error appeared when you tried to install an HP printer, check that the driver is compatible with your computer. One reason for that error is when the driver you installed is for a different operating system and not for Windows XP. The best way to install the driver is to get the latest from the manufacturer’s website.
For HP printers, go to HP Customer Support – Software and Driver Downloads. Here, enter your printer’s serial number or model number then click to search. You can find the serial number printed on the sticker either on the side or bottom of the device. When your device is located, click it to go to the download page then select the drivers download tab or section.
Your operating system should be detected automatically. If a different operating system is displayed, click to change then select your correct operating system. Download and install all available drivers and software for your device.
