Hello people,
I use a VirtualBox to run multiple operating systems on my computer as I don’t have to reboot each time I change the operating system. But when I installed Fedora16 and executed it through VirtualBox, it starts the operating system but GNOME fails to load and I get the following error message:
Â
GNOME 3 Failed to Load
Â
Unfortunately GNOME 3 failed to start properly and started in the
fallback mode.
Â
This most likely means your system (graphics hardware or driver) is not
capable of delivering the full GNOME 3 experience.

Fedora 16 caused GNOME error in VirtualBox
Dear Joanna,
I see your problem, I have experienced the EXACT same one, What you need to do is install VirtualBox 4.0.8 It seems to be the only VirtualBox edition that works with Fedora without crashing the GNOME. If that fails, you might want to install the guest additions on VirtualBox into the virtual machine and then reboot your virtual machine, that seemed to work for me and I got Fedora running.
Also, there could be another reason why, what you need to do is maybe add a little bit more graphics memory, and try adding more RAM and CPU (If you have more than 3 GB RAM don't bother). If all fails, then there are two options:
-
Install Fedora uses Multi-Boot.
-
Or get Fedora 15 Live CD and try that!
That is all there is to it! I hope you get it running normally.
Best of luck,
Majdman
