The filter cannot complete because of an unknown error.
Hello John,
Well when ever using CS3/4 version of VectorScribe in illustrator CS6 you may wish to disable to the align to pixel grid option when defining a new document or by the advance transform panel option when creating dynamic shapes or corners, the align to pixel grid option may move points automatically thereby removing the dynamic status.
The filter cannot complete because of an unknown error.
Hi,
Yes, this error occurred due to un availability of latest plug-in. Following solutions can solve your problem:
1. First please install the upgraded version of VectorScribe  v1.2. It will resolve your issue.
2. Secondly please search for .aip file in illustrator program files. Unlock the file and change its permission from 'read only' to 'read and write' and illustrator will start working accurately.
I hope it will help.
Regards.

It's rather difficult to identify what causes the problem because you cannot isolate a certain circumstance of when it happens.
For example: For same document, first you will select an object and when the filter is applied the error shows up. If a second object is selected and the filter is applied then it may work sometimes.
Instead of using the filter, I generally create a rectangle around my artwork, then click Object > Crop Area > Make. If you want change the size of your art, simply choose Object > Crop Area > Release, then re-size your box and make a new crop area. Maybe that will help.
