This problem can be easily solved by restoring to a previous point on your PC-

  1. Go tool my computer on your pc and then proceed to advanced system settings
  2. Go to system protection tab and then select system restore
  3. Cock on next and select since restore point when you were not facing the error
  4. Let the PC restore to the previous point

This will definitely solve the problem.

That error can happen if you accidentally deleted the installation folder of the program and you clicked on the program’s shortcut on your desktop. It can also happen if the main executable file of the program where the shortcut points to is deleted. The icons on your desktop appear when you install programs. Most of the time, the creation of the shortcut is asked during the installation.

But there are times setup will not prompt you if you want to create a shortcut. When the installation is finished, the shortcut then appears on the desktop. The shortcut is directly linked to the main executable file of the application (*.exe).

When you double-click on the shortcut, the link will look for the EXE file where it is linked to on the path indicated on the shortcut and runs it. If the link cannot locate the EXE file on the path, a similar error will be fired up which then displays the error message on the screen.

To fix this, check what program you have opened then check if the program is still installed on the computer. If it is no longer installed, just delete the shortcut. But if it is still installed or the program was moved to a different location, delete the old shortcut and create a new one.

To create a new shortcut, right-click a blank area on your desktop then point to “New” and select “Shortcut.”

Create shortcut

Click “Browse” then navigate to the location of the program’s main EXE file and select it. Click “Next.”

Navigate to the EXE file

On the next screen, type the name of the program and click “Finish.” And that’s it.

Name the shortcut
