I just switched on my PC and suddenly a question popped-up on system’s screen. I’m unable to locate the root of the problem with my PC. Also, I would be glad and thankful to you if you guide me on how to get over this problem?

This error is related to the un-synchronization of the system hard drive related issues. Firstly, it is usually caused due to corrupted windows, flawed registry settings or infected virus system. You can perform the self-test by installing The Dell Resource CD.

Restart your system, and automatically Welcome Dell System Owner window will open, click next and under System Criteria select ALL for system model and operating system. Also, choose Diagnostics in Topics. After that, under system select Dell DST Diagnostic Utility and then click on the run. If the test reports an error, opt for Dell Troubleshooting Wizard.

Secondly, scan your system using a good and updated antivirus software and remove all the viruses if detected.

Thirdly, the registry is the part of your system which stores settings and information and gets infected easily; it is the primary cause of this error. Use a good ‘registry cleaner’ to resolve the issue.

I think you need to detect your hard drive again because the result of the hard drive self-test returned a “no drive detected” status. This means the BIOS wasn’t able to detect the hard drive. It seems one of the cables got loosed and needs to be checked again. Turn off your CPU and open the CPU case.

Disconnect and reconnect the ribbon cable and power supply cable of the hard drive. Next, start the CPU and go to the BIOS. Try detecting the hard drive again. Once it is detected, repeat the hard drive self-test and see if it works. You should be able to detect it if the drive has no other problem.
