Get rid of a virus on your computer
Beside installing anti-virus, what else can I do to avoid virus on my computer and how can I protect my system from getting damaged? Can you give me some advice? Thanks

Hi Emily,
Computer protection is very vital in this day and age considering businesses and even personal data can be lost if some viruses attack your system
Here are a few tips if you are using window XP you might look at that could help:
1. Turn ON the Internet Firewall.
This normally ensures that no unauthorized users gains access to you computer through the internet or a local network.
2. Always run all necessary latest updates & service packsÂ
3. Always remember to turn on the pop-up blocker – this feature is available on Windows XP (you can see this under tools > Internet Options > Privacy > Click Block Pop Ups.
4. Avoid opening emails that look suspicious especially those with attachments. you can delete or send them back to the owner.
5. Be very careful When using messenger (IM) services. Files being sent through instant messenger could have viruses and once you download and open could infect your computer. Rather choose to have it emailed it to you. Most of email services now has virus check and clears it if the file has virus or not.
6. Run defragmentation, disk clean up, registry scanner at least once a week. You can find defragmentation by simply pointing your mouse on drive C: (which is usually the hard disk main logical drive) > right click the mouse > click on properties > click on tools > click on defragment now!
Good Luck ! 🙂
