When I open a new tab in Google Chrome, I am directed here: chrome-internal://newtab/. I'm not sure why this is occurring or what, if anything, I can do to resolve it. I am looking for help on this, as it is just annoying but not bothersome. Any suggestions, or is this common and I just need to stick with it? Thank you.

This error is caused by an installed extension which you have added in Chrome.

Solution 1 – Turn off your extensions one-by-one and see which one is causing the error:

  • Click the Chrome Menu in the top-right hand corner of your browser
  • Click on Tools and select Extensions
  • Uncheck the “Enabled” checkbox next to an extension and see if the problem persists.  Do this for all extensions to find out which one is causing the error.

Solution 2 – Check extensions (Second option)

  • Click in the browser to open a new tabbed page
  • Right-click anywhere on the webpage and click Inspect Element
  • Select and click on Resources > Frames > newtab.html > Scripts
  • The script file of the extension that is causing the error will show up, and you can just disable the extension

Solution 3: Reset your Chrome Settings

  • Click the Chrome Menu in the top-right hand corner of your browser
  • Click on Settings > Show Advanced Settings
  • Look for the section called Reset Settings and click on the Reset Settings button
  • A dialog box will open up – just click Reset
