Hello Cynthiawgaloway! Having Chrome as the operating system on these notebooks does affect its price. One reason is that the Chrome operating system does not have as much hardware requirement as a Microsoft Windows operating system like the Windows 7 or 8. These notebooks or more popularly known as Chromebooks are designed to have a retail price of below $600. The Series 5 12.1 3G priced at $549.99 has the following specifications. It is running on Intel Celeron Processor 867 (1.3Ghz), 4GB DDR3 RAM, and has a 16GB SSD as storage device. It has a 12.1 inches and a resolution for 1280×800 for its display. For connectivity, it comes with a 802.11 a/b/g/n wireless adapter (for Wi-Fi) and as the model suggests, has the capability to connect to 3G networks.Â
