Morning friends!
I was just upgrading my system this morning. All updates were made except Google Chrome. So, I run the update of Chrome and during the update, it gave me this error message with some error codes. Take a look at the image attached.
I re-downloaded the same update from another source via internet and again run the update. This time, it completed the update up to 80%, and after that, the same error message appeared.
Google Update installation failed with error 0x80040890.
So then, I scanned my Drives because I thought that there might be virus affecting these updates. After a full scanning of hard drive, I deleted recent updates and downloaded a new version of update. When I run it, I received the same message again that Google update Installation failed.
If anyone has any other ideas why the update is not getting installed, then let me know.

Google Chrome Update Installer Error
It shows the mode in which your Windows is running. This time your computer is not affected by the viruses. Actually, your computer is running in Audit mode that will not complete your installation in any case.
You must have to resolve this problem to complete the installation process. You only need to modify the Registry of your Windows to fix this issue. Here are the following steps to fix it.
• Click on Start.
• And go to Run.Â
• Type regedit in run and click OK.
Find the value of Image State in (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionSetupState).
Right-click Registry Key and choose Modify. Delete the value in the field and click OK.

I think you are trying to get updates from dangerous sites and you might just risk infecting your computer with viruses and force you to reinstall windows, which you may not like. I will suggest that if you want to get the updates for your Google chrome then search them and download them from a trusted site, and most probably a site that has updates for Google applications.
The problem may also be as a result of an out of date version of windows installer that you may be using and some other component on your system that is malfunctioning hence causing the errors during the update of Google chrome. Therefore you might consider running system repair to rectify and issues affecting the system components.

Hello,
This can be done for your Internet connection. please check your internet connection softly. Also check :
1. Your computer time and date are correct
2. You are using Google chrome official version
If this problem continues you should download Google chrome update via website like download.com. you will find latest Google chrome with updates.
Sometimes there occurs problem with download or updates from Google chrome official website due to site traffic.

Why don't you try some software to download the chrome.
You can even consult the web pages you want to. It is a good idea . And may be there are some virus in your computer or something serious damage has done to your computer.
So be careful with your system while accepting it may install.Â
