Several people receive this error message around the world when they try to install Google chrome or Google earth.

The Google Update installation failed with error 0x8004071c.

Google Earth and Chrome Install error 8004071c

I found this fix for Windows seven elsewhere and this worked for me.

1. Press Start – Run – On the search button type "regedit" and then press enter.

2. Notice the subsequent reg key:

For Vista: The worth or value of 'ImageState' in HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup\State

For XP: the worth or value of 'AuditInProgress' in HKLM\System\Setup

For Windows 7: the worth or value of 'ImageState' in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup\State

2. Right click the Reg key and select Modify.

4. Delete the value that's inside then press OK. Don't be afraid as value will be just revert back to "BLANK",
