Hello Mr. Blevins,
The Google Summer of Code 2012 is a program that provides stipends to post secondary students that want to become future software developers. Ages range from 18 and older have a chance to write code for different open source software project such as: open source, free software, and other technology – related groups and funding projects.
This a global program and has been around since 2005. The program has successfully placed over 6000 students and 3000 mentors from 100 or more countries worldwide. Once the student is accepted in the program they are paired up with a mentor(s) next they will learn real world software development through different scenarios.
This program also provides the students with employment opportunities in their related field. The great plus about this program as you are learning you are developing more source codes that will be of use to all in the real world. To apply you would have obtained an application from the website Google Summer of Codes 2012.
This where you will submit the application as well. Applications are accepted starting March 27- April 6, 2012.
