Hi,
I was installing Norton Internet Security 2009 on my new laptop with Win 7.
The installation didn’t finish and I got this error message stating that NIS product required Windows XP or Windows Vista.
Did this mean that NIS 2009 I had wasn’t ready for Win 7?
What should I do next?
Please help.

The error you encounter in Norton Internet Security 2009 is really correct in giving you that information. That error occurred because Windows 7 that time was release lately in med 2009 and developer of Norton was not able to anticipate the upcoming Windows operating system. Well Norton developers continue developing the antivirus in advance because of competition with other antivirus manufacturer. Norton Internet Security 2009 was release during September 8, 2008. We may know that majority of antivirus has an expiry date and if using this old version 2009 it may cause you some problem because some new virus penetrate in the system. Why use old version when there is 30 days expiry date of new 2011 Norton for DEMO.

For sure the installer has told you crystal clear that the norton internet security version that you are trying to install cannot work on the windows 7 operating system version because it is meant to be used on windows vista and windows xp. So in this case you will just have to discard that setup and then go to the internet and look for another norton internet security program that is compatible with windows 7 operating system.
Some programs have been designed to be used by specific versions of operating systems, and therefore when you are downloading an application ensure that you check your system requirements first.

Hi friend,
This error shows that you need to install this Norton Internet Security 2009 in a pc which is running an operating system of Windows XP or Windows Vista. This install requires Windows XP or Windows Vista to execute this setup exe file.
Therefore you can still run this setup exe in windows 7. To do this follows this
1. Right click on setup exe and then go to properties.
2. Go to compatibility tab and then in compatibility mode box check that button said “run this program in compatibility mode for ”
3. Now select the compatibility mode in windows 7 as this image shows.

First off, Norton Internet Security 2009 is about 2 years old now. It was designed for the older operating systems, namely Windows XP and Windows Vista, and you shouldn't be using it in the year 2011 as there is already a more updated version. If you have it installed, even if you switch to older operating systems just so you can use it, chances are you will be infected by newer viruses as the program is obsolete and may not anymore be getting recent virus definition updates. The best option for you, while you keep using Windows 7, is to download the latest Norton Internet Security and use that instead. That way, you have the latest software installed and you are better protected and you get to keep the latest Windows operating system.
