Hi,
I was using Win XP and intermittently got this error message, see screenshot below. I thought that it was a virus as some articles in the web suggested so I tried scanning manually my PC with antivirus software. Well, it turned out that my PC was clean. Anyway, any help for the resolution to get rid of this error message is greatly appreciated.

The actual logonui.exe is a legitimate windows file, and is found in C:windowssystem32 folder.
However, due to any reason like virus activity or malware, this file gets corrupted and users start receiving this error. For the resolution perform these steps:
1- Click start- all programs-Accessories on the command prompt right click and click on run as administrator
2- Type without colons “EXPAND X:i386LogOnUI.EX_ C:WindowsSystem32LogOnUI.EXE”
3- Restart the computer
4- If the problem still persist, run any registry cleaner tool like ccleaner(http://download.piriform.com/ccsetup312.exe) or RegInout (https://www.reginout.com/download/bst/)

Got an error while using logonui.exe
Hi there user:
This is an attack to your operating system. Install the Windows CD and then Enter to boot from the CD. Click R, and then type the user password, enter. Type the ‘copy userinit.exe wsaupdater.exe, and then reboot the system. Start, Run, type ‘regedit’. Modify C:WindowsSystem32wsaupdater.exe to C:WindowsSystem32userinit.exe.
