Hi,

At home, I found two old HD, these were salvaged from our two old defective pc's. One HD has a capacity of 320GB  and the other one has 120GB. I wanted to use them as an external USB storage device. But I don't know how to.

Is my idea possible? if so, what do I need to do to get me started?

Yes, it is possible that you can use your old hard drive as an External Storage/USB. This process also helps you to speed up your old hard drive as an External Storage.

All you have to do is use "USB2.0 Universal Drive Adopter".

It will enhance the hard disk speed and provide you speed at the time of sharing data from 1 Hard Drive to another. If you need anymore Info then feel free to contact us. We're Always Here For You!

Yes it’s possible and very easy. Mechanical hard disk drives come in two distinct sizes: 2.5 inch and 3.5 inch. The former size is for laptops and the latter for desktops. Next, you have to determine the type of hard drive. Older computers contain IDE hard drives while newer ones contain SATA. On an IDE, the connector is a double row of metal pins while on a SATA the connectors consist of two flat tabs.

Next, you need to buy a hard disk enclosure that matches the size of your hard disk- a 2.5 inch enclosure for a 2.5 inch hard disk or a 3.5 inch enclosure for a 3.5 inch hard disk. 2.5 inch enclosures are powered via the usb port but the 3.5 inch come with power adapters since they need external power. Most hard disk enclosures have a usb interface connector.

Installing the hard disk is a basic and effortless process and the only tool you’ll need is a screw driver. Once the external is powered up, you’ll actually hear/feel the hard disk spinning. Also you’ll see a led indicator light up. Lastly, connect the external hard disk to your computer/laptop and it will appear as a removable storage.

Hi!

You can use your old hard drives. Your old hard drive must be compatible with your current computer setup. Check if your computer supports IDE or SATA and likewise with your old hard drive. The best way to use your hard drive is to purchase an external hard drive enclosure with USB connection
