Help Atom Installation has failed

Several users have encountered this issue on the Atom setup file, AtomSetup.exe. It’s not clear though if they encountered the error when they installed Atom for the first time or when they upgraded Atom to the latest because most of them encountered it during the upgrade. One of the solutions that worked is by running CCleaner.

The error is thrown when you uninstall your existing version and install the latest version. Even if you delete “/AppData/Local/atom” and “/Users//.atom”, it will still trigger the error once you run the installer for the latest Atom version. To fix this, download and install CCleaner Standard Free Version. If you are upgrading Atom to the latest version, uninstall first your existing version.

Once uninstalled, run CCleaner and clean your hard drive. Once cleaning is finished, run the latest AtomSetup.exe installer and install your app. It should fix the problem. On the other hand, if you received a different error like in the image above even if you already used CCleaner, it means you are not using the latest. Download and install the latest from Atom 1.7.4 Latest Release.

For the CCleaner, since the Professional Plus version is really meant to be purchased because it doesn’t provide a Free Trial download, you can download the trial version of the Professional version. Download the CCleaner License Codes to register the Professional version. Follow the instructions on the text file. Use the password without quotes “trustno1” when unpacking the 7z file.
