Help on configuring two Linksys WRT54G Routers

I have a router connected with the other two wireless routers, but I can only use one of them. I want to turn them both on so that the network coverage on my house will increase.

I tried to enable my second router as a wireless broadcast, so I named the network the same but my network devices sees two different networks with the same name. I surely knew that I’ve missed something from the configuration of the routers that are both Linksys WRT54G. Any help would be nice,

Thank you dear users.

Try changing the IP address of the second router to something else, that is ,should  not be the same as the one in your initial router.

The router shall be set up as follows.

1. The router with local IP address shall be connected to the first wireless router. By the way, the default IP address is 192.168.1.

1 Set by manufacturer and administrator of network router could change it any time.

2. Change the IP address of the second router.Enter a LAN’s free address (e.g. 192.168.1.2. And please be reminded that any other devices in the network with static IP address should not use the same address.

3. The DHCP server on the second router shall be turned off.

4. Both routers shall have a different SSID (e.g. ‘linksys’ shall not be named on both routers) and make sure that enable SSID broadcast.

5. Encryption WPA or WPA2 (preferably) is highly recommended (can be different or same on both routers)

6. Each router shall have its own password.

7. Any two different channels can work fine but could stay at least 5 channels apart and usually channel 11, 6, and 1 work best.

8. Both existing and new WRT54G must use the same ‘port forwarding’ and new login passwords are needed on both routers and do not use ‘admin’.

9. Save the above.

Connecting 2 routers in a networking is obtainable. This is also being used by techy persons who knows how to configure these devices. This provides them multiple computers working at the same time plus wireless connection made and set-up by themselves.

To configure wireless connection, changing names, WEP key, channel, this can be done in 2 ways. You can use either using the CD installation provided by the router manufacturer or using the manual installation.

Using manual installation, do the following steps below;

Open Internet Explorer
Type 192.168.1.1 in the address bar
Log-in using username: admin and password: password
Set the settings to either DHCP, PPOE or Static
Save the settings
Then go to Wireless tab
Change the Network name or SSID
Configure encryption code, WEP or WPA
Change the Channel if you want for stronger wireless signal
Save the Settings
