How To Block Websites In Windows 7. Away From The Internet Dirt.
Blocking any site is an easy task. It includes minor coding, but most of it is copy-paste. All the browsers allow blocking sites depending on our ease. Following are some of the ways to block sites:
1) BLOCKING SITES ON WINDOWS.
-
Go to my computer and select C drive to convert URL’s like www.facebook.com into numerical DNS address.
-
Search for ‘etc.’ folder. In this folder, search for ‘hosts’ file.
-
Open the ‘hosts’ file in notepad so that you can edit it and block some particular sites.
-
Scroll down to the end of the text in notepad. Do not edit anything else written in it.
-
Type 127.0.0.1 and the URL of the website that you want to block.
-
Example: 127.0.0.1 www.twitter.com. Remember not to add ‘http: //’ as it would cause failure in blocking.
-
If you wish to block two or more sites, type each website on a new line.
-
Press CTRL + S or go to file->save to save the file.
Now if you try to open the blocked sites in your browser, it would give an error.
2) BLOCKING WEBSITES ON MAC.
-
Open terminal. Open it by following the path: finder under->applications->utilities->terminal.
-
You need to open your host file to carry out the blocking process. For this type “Sudo nano/etc/host” in your terminal window. Type 127.0.0.1 and the URL of the website that you want to block.
-
Remember not to add ‘http: //’ as it would cause failure in blocking.
Example: 127.0.0.1 www.twitter.com
-
If you wish to block two or more, type each website in new line.
-
Save the file.
-
Then type ”Sudo dscacheutil -flushcache” to bring out the changes into effect
-
Press enter. Your sites are blocked and you have no access to them.
