How can change boot option permanently in Red Hat linux
Hi there,
Nice to see your question here. Actually your question is not complete, I think. Because in Linux there is two kind of interface. One is text mode another is X11 mode. When you install Linux that time you can set any one. After install also you can change it by edit one file. The file is /etc/inittab. You can change it anytime if you know.
Please see below image the place where we can change. By Default here is 5 for X11 mode. if you want to change it text and multi user mode then edit this line and put 3 instead of 5.

Hi Paul,
I hope your problem might got resolved but still I wanted to tell what I understood regarding the question. Perhaps you wanted to change operating systems boot sequence. As you are a Linux user we skip initial detail and come to the point. Boot sequence is saved in file named grub.conf (as I expect you must be using default boot loader) which lies either in /etc/grub or /boot/grub so simply type:Â
#vi /etc/gub/grub.conf.
There at the end you can see title and names, partitions of installed operating systems. Just toggle them upwards down, save file and restart. Wow booting priority is changed.
Smile.
