I just got my new printer and I was trying to install it. At the last step of the installation this error popped out. I clicked on OK since its the only option, the next thing I saw was the un-installation window, it performed a clean up then ask for a restart. After restarting the computer I tried again on installing it and I'm getting the same error. I think that if I hit on OK it will just do the same thing it did. What should I do?

There is surely some error with the driver you have installed for this printer. May be some files are corrupt or misconfigured.
Try to completely uninstall the installed driver and then restart your computer. After restarting install the driver again and make sure no error occurs during the installation of the driver. Once installed correctly, I am sure the error will be gone.

How can I fix a “fatal error during installation”?
Since it’s a fatal error, it could be a problem with the installer you are using. If you are installing from a CD or DVD and the error keeps appearing, it means there is a problem with the setup media. In this case, try cleaning the lens of your optical drive by purchasing an optical lens cleaner like the following:
- DVD CD Players Laser Lens Cleaner – this lens cleaner costs $4.55 and available for free shipping. See details for shipping worldwide. Item is located in China.
- DVD & CD Laser Lens Cleaner – this one costs $8.82 and ships worldwide. Seller doesn’t offer free shipping. Item is located in the United States.
- DVD Lens Cleaner – the price of this one is a bit higher than the first two, costs $14.99. Seller doesn’t offer free shipping and ships to select countries only. Item is located in the United States.
If this doesn’t work, try cleaning the disc itself by washing your CD with a solution of water and baby shampoo. After washing, wipe it dry with a lint-free cloth. If the problem continues, just download the driver from the manufacturer’s website. Go to HP Customer Support – Software and Driver Downloads to get the driver.
Here, enter your device’s model number or serial number then click to search. When your product is located, click it to go to the download page. On the next screen, your operating system should automatically be detected. If a different operating system is shown, click to change then select your correct operating system. After this, download and install all necessary drivers and software for your device.
Download the drivers on your computer to serve as backup in case the manufacturer removes the driver in the future which happens on very old models.
