Are there solutions in ejecting an external device from a computer with a Vista operating system? I have tried doing the standard process of ejection by terminating all other programs on the desktop but it does not seem to be working. How can I successfully remove an external device from my machine?

I guess you have tried ejecting it while you are still using it. It is a big possibility, so before ejecting make sure that all of the files associated with the external hard disk is closed so that ejecting will not be a problem. If it is still not ejecting then I suggest that you scan your computer for viruses, because it might have invaded your external hard disk already that is why it is still running even though you think you are not using it anymore.

You can also format it both the PC and External Hard Drive but it depends on you, but this time it will surely eject once this process is done.

Hi Luchi,

There is no such thing as we can't remove external drives in our computer. It seems your having a hard time on doing this process successfully. Here are the steps to remove external hard drives on our computer.

1. Locate the clock on your computer that would be located on right side on your screen on the volume side.

2. Click the arrow cursor (That's the devices attached on your PC)

3. Right Click and  Safely Remove Hardware.

If doesn't work try to disable and re-enable your hard drive using Windows or try to reinstall your driver for that device.

Thanks.
