Hello SusanLittleBarg,

Here's your question:

I have a question about windows firewall. What is windows firewall? Is it protect us from illegal access on your computer system? How can I setting windows firewall and what are the option setting for windows firewall. Please anybody give me a full description and step to understand that.

Yes, windows firewall protect computer from intruders. What's good about having windows firewall is, it will secure ports and filtered outbound connections. It started back when Windows XP is first introduced where numbers of reported issues raised concerning about security, virus related issues and other spam/spyware attacks.

By default, Windows XP SP2 and up to the latest version has built in firewall that you can enable.

To enabled Windows Firewall on XP, Go to Start, Control Panel, Network and Internet and Windows Firewall. This is where you can set the settings, disabled or enabled the software.

To enabled Windows Firewall on Vista and Windows 7. Go to Start, Control Panel, System and Security then Windows Firewall. This is where you can adjust the settings of your security software and anti-virus.

Feel free to contact us if you have questions.

Hello There! I am more than glad to give you better understanding about Windows Firewall.

Windows Firewall is a software developed and distributed by Microsoft Corporation that will help check information from a certain network or Internet. It would either block or allow the information to pass through to your computer. This will also help prevent intruders or malicious software (example: worms) to gain certain access to your computer. It helps stop your computer from sending malicious files to other computers as well.

In some cases, people using Windows OS will think that their computers doesn’t contain any malicious files that would interest anyone, well better think again. A worm can disable/completely ruin computers or would help an individual gain access to your computer to spread worms, viruses or malicious files to other people's computer.

Since Microsoft Corporation developed the software, they know exactly how the software works. They recommend that users would use this:

When you go to Control Panel and go to Windows Firewall Settings Window, Under the General Tab, Select On (Recommended).

**If there is a need for you to allow exceptions, make sure that you only allow programs that you really know/familiar with. In addition, Firewall should be on for all network locations.

Hello SusanLittlebarg,

Windows firewall scrutinizes both data entering and getting out from the PC through the internet in real time as well as when it occurs. Then it permits or blocks entering the information in your computer. Windows firewall can facilitate blocking unauthorized data from accessing in your PC. Windows firewall also averts you from sending out apprehensive information to other PCs via the web. Windows firewall is quite different from those Antivirus softwares. But both of them in combined operate to provide protection to your PC

For setting up a firewall in your PC (having Windows XP)

  • First hit the Start button
  • Enter to the option Control Panel
  • Then click twice icon on windows firewall
  • Finally hit the radio button ON (recommended) for activating the firewall.
You can add several application software in the list of Exceptions; simply hit the Add Program button for permitting network access to that particular application. In many of the cases, when you install a new application and operate it for the first time, windows may ask if you want to block or allow the specific application’s network entrance.

There are some elements with which firewall has nothing to do, such as Phishing scams, email viruses etc. That is why it is highly recommended that you may install an antivirus system that may provide protection from viruses.

Thanks,

Dear Susuan,

Thanks for asking us.

Dear windows firewall protects us very perfectly.

Firewall protects us from many viruses. It stops the access of Data thieves to our computer.

As you know that the virus can be dismissed in fire. So, Fire Wall performs the same task.

It works like a wall of fire on the way of outdoor connections.

You can get the other information from this link.
