Hello everyone!
I am using a Windows 2003 and I want to connect the 3 computers to the server. I have the IP address, I configure already on the server as well as the 3 computers. When I tried connecting PC1 to the server, it doesn't work? Upon checking the manager properties of the computer, I noticed that the computer name set to Workgroup and it should've been in domain.
How can I change it to domain instead of workgroup?
Do I have to uninstall and install Windows 2003 again to be able to connect to the PC?
I need your opinion thank you.
How to change Domain name
You do not have to uninstall and reinstall the 2003 server.
To join a computer to a server 2003 domain, make sure the server 2003 has been promoted to a domain controller by typing dcpromo in the run dialog box , click OK and following the Active Directory installation wizard.
Once the 2003 server has been promoted and the domain has been created make sure the server and the client computers are on the same network.
1. On the client computer right click My Computer, click Properties and select Computer Name.
2. Type the description and select Change.
3. Type computer name, select Domain, type domain name and click OK.
4. When prompted provide the domain admin username and password.
5. After computer is joined to the domain you will be asked to restart computer for changes to take effect.
Voila, you are done.
How to change Domain name
Workgroup needs to set-up and configured properly. You'll need to have a computer administrator that will control all the networking process. Plus, you'll need to set-up a group name and computers included in that group. IP Address should not conflict with each computer attacked to it. Name must be different from other devices connected to the network.
The steps below will guide you through changing name from workgroup to Domain. Before you made changes, you have to have the local administrator group's username and password. This important for making changes and allows you to log-in to the network. All windows has this feature but can be configured differently.
* Go to Computer Name tab and click the Change button.
* Type the Computer name in the Computer Name tab dialog box.
* Type Domain Name in Domain dialog box.
* Go to More to change the Domain Name's primary suffix.
These are the steps to change workgroup to Domain.
